CROIX PECTORALE / PECTORAL CROSS

Pendentif très ornementé en forme de croix latine, en alliage de métal contenant de l'argent.

On peut voir sur la face principale du crucifix, Jesus sur la croix, avec les lettres JHS (qui reprend le monogramme trilitère grec IHΣ pour signifier le nom de Jésus, ou IHΣOYΣ). On voit la vierge Marie couronnée en haut du Christ, et des figures saintes à sa gauche et sa droite.

À l'endos, on peut voir cinq figures nimbées sur trois registres. On reconnait la Vierge Marie en train de plier dans le bas. Les trois figures centrales sont probablement Pierre, Jean et Jacques ; les trois apôtres qui sont vus comme des colonnes qui tiennent l'Église dans l'ici-bas. En haut on voit une figure, qui est le Christ triomphant dans l'au-delà.

La croix est bordée de motifs réguliers qui délimite son contours et les différents registres. Des fleurs à quatre pétals ornent les coins centraux de la pièce. Les coins externes sont renforcis.

Very ornate pendant in the shape of a Latin cross, made of a metal alloy containing silver.

The main side of the crucifix shows Jesus on the cross, with the letters JHS (which takes the Greek triliteral monogram IHΣ to mean the name of Jesus, or IHΣOYΣ). The Virgin Mary is seen crowned atop Christ, and holy figures to her left and right.

On the back, five nimbed figures can be seen on three levels. We recognize the Virgin Mary folding at the bottom. The three central figures are probably Peter, John and James; the three apostles who are seen as pillars holding up the Church in this world. At the top we see a figure, which is Christ triumphant in the afterlife

The cross is bordered by regular motifs that delimit its contours and the different levels. Four-petalled flowers adorn the central corners of the piece. The outer corners are reinforced.
