Description
Early and important working blue heron decoy, Captain Al Ketchem, Long Island, New York, 2nd half 19th century. Three piece construction with two piece head and neck. Glass eyes. The large body has a dowel for the lower piece of the neck to sit on. Hole is drilled in underside so bird can be positioned on a stake. Body length is 24".

Old paint, some of which is original has been scraped down on body, neck, and head; original yellow paint on bill shows great age and has crazed; split in underside of body has old wire nails to secure it from further splitting; some imperfections in wood
