Title: Santo Domingo (Kewa) Pueblo jar by Arthur & Hilda Coriz
Description: Title: Santo Domingo (Kewa) Pueblo jar by Arthur & Hilda Coriz
Description: Santo Domingo (Kewa) Pueblo jar by Arthur & Hilda Coriz (1948-1998 and 1949-2007), c. 1975, 10.5" x 12.625". Hilda Coriz learned pottery from her younger brother, Robert Tenorio, the best-known living potter of the Pueblo. Hilda’s husband Arthur learned by watching Hilda and Robert. Quickly mastering form and decoration he created most of the couple’s designs. Arthur and Hilda worked in both the geometric and representational (birds and flowers) traditions of Santo Domingo, and enjoyed a productive--but all too brief--career showing and winning awards at Santa Fe Indian Market until Arthur’s death in 1998.
There is no chip on lip, even though it might first appear that way in the photo.
