6th-7th century A.D. A figural pottery whistle formed as a stylised human-animal hybrid being constricted by a snake; composed of two stub forelegs and a tail; tapering, hollow-formed body with oval mid-section, snake coiled around the torso, neck and head; human face with lentoid eyes, snub nose and open mouth; circular holes to both flanks and back. 77.7 grams, 97 mm wide (3 7/8 in.). Acquired 1980s-1990s. Collection of M. Cummings, Lincolnshire, UK. [No Reserve]
