Description
Native American, southwest United States, New Mexico, northwest of Santa Fe, San Ildefonso Pueblo, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. Signed "Helen / Gutierrez / S. Ildefonso" on base by Helen Gutierrez (1935 to 1993). An attractive pottery jar fired to a lustrous black surface with a matte horizontal band of abstract feather, mountain, and cloud designs encompassing the exterior. Sitting upon a flattened, narrow base, the vessel presents thick walls that rise to an apple-form body, a corseted neck, and annular rim. Size: 1.8" Diameter x 1.7" H (4.6 cm x 4.3 cm)
Provenance: private Denver collection, USA, by inheritance before 2000 from the Harry Tammen Family collection, former owner of the Denver Post
