Large framed American Civil War archive containing information on the death of Confederate States of America soldier Captain Frederick Davis Wimberly, 6th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, on September 17, 1862 at the Battle of Sharpsburg, Maryland, including a framed reproduction photograph of a soldier, a pair of Captains shoulder straps, and a metal buckle stamped "C.S.A." on a black leather belt. Unmarked but likely from The Lenneth R. Laurence Galleries. Note: There were two Frederick (Fred) D. Wimberlys serving in the 6th Regiment, Georgia Infantry and both from Twiggs county, Georgia: Frederick D. Wimberly enlisted May 27, 1861 as a Second Lieutenant, promoted First Lieutenant June 10, 1862, Captain July 1, 1862, and killed at Sharpsburg, Maryland, September 17, 1862; Fred D. Wimberly (American, 1840-1893) enlisted as a Private June 15. 1861, promoted to Captain after the Battle of Sharpsburg where he was wounded, and resigned his commission serving out the remainder of the Civil War as a Quartermaster Sergeant in Macon, Georgia, though the 6th Georgia carried his name on their rolls as a Commissary Sergeant as a mark of respect.
