Rookwood Pottery Vase by Albert Frank Pons (American, 1888-1972) dated 1907. Signed, numbered, and dated on base. A beautiful Rookwood ceramic vessel of a classic jug form by Albert Pons, decorated with a peacock feather relief motif on the exterior walls and embellished with matte Vellum glaze of seafoam green, periwinkle, and aqua hues. The vessel is marked on the base with the Rookwood logo (a back-to-back "R" and "P" surrounded by flames), "VII" to indicate the date 1907, identifying shape number "512 B", "V" for Vellum Glaze, and a "AP" (Albert Pons) artist's mark. A stunning example of the carved matte vessels that Albert Pons created during his tenure at Rookwood! Size: 5.875" in diameter at widest point x 7.875" H (14.9 cm x 20 cm)
The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded in 1880 by the artist Maria Longworth-Nichols who created a world-renowned ceramic studio in Cincinnati, Ohio that attracted many reputable artists and ceramicists. Albert Frank Pons studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and worked for Rookwood Pottery from 1904 until 1911. When he started at Rookwood he was only 16 years old. Pons created some of the most beautiful carved matte vessels!

Condition
A few minor scuffs/marks on the surface. Otherwise, intact and quite striking. The vessel is marked on the base with the Rookwood logo (a back-to-back "R" and "P" surrounded by flames), "VII" to indicate the date 1907, identifying shape number "512 B", "V" for Vellum Glaze, and a "AP" (Albert Pons) artist's mark. Traces of museum putty on base. Various old labels on base (including "Rookwood 1907" "Covered Matte Jug" and "Signed Albert Pons").
