Nuu-chah-nulth, (b. 1967), 1991, a mask of an elder woman wearing a labret, carved and painted wood, horsehair, mother-of-pearl, leather, and feathers, carved signature verso.

Sanford Williams has made it his life's work creating art that echoes the past of the First Nations people of British Columbia. Born and raised on the west coast
of Vancouver Island in the remote village of Yuquot, Sanford Williams was inspired by his relatives, notably his uncle – the late Chief Dominic Andrew. Once described as 'the real deal', Sanford began carving authentic pieces in 1984 from his remote,
beachfront shop using handmade materials.
