Rei Kawakubo, Comme des Garcons white cotton and black velvet petticoat dress with the appearance of a two part ensemble though it is stitched together for a one piece dress. It has the characteristic of Victorian era clothing including the 'feel' of weighty layered petticoat style undergarments. The cotton section of the dress closes with a long row of hooks similar to corset closures and incorporates layers of ruffles interspersed with netting and the occasional slit. The velvet 'jacket' buttons at the front with a Peter Pan collar, hip pockets and a modified swing style silhouette at the back. The bodice of the jacket is slit at the bust for a peek-a-boo effect both exposing the cotton ruffles underneath as well as the wearer's body.
