BIOGRAPHY:
James Weston is known for Landscape-structure and still-life painting. The following, submitted May 2005, is from Joan Fagan:I am a desendant of the WESTONS. The earliest information I have on the Westons is a marriage certificate showing James Weston and Selina Freret's marriage on Jan 30 1860 in London England. Then, I have the family in Canada during the 1881 census where James Louis is listed as James and Selina's third child, born in England in 1865.We suspect James' father is a painter for the noted photograher William Notman. If this is true, James' father's photo, along with other family member's photos and drawings are on the web site at The McCord Museum. According to my great aunt (who is living), her father Harold Weston, is the two-year old child with the blond hair.James Louis, the son, broke with his family and traveled the Northeast painting landscapes. I have several of his paintings with clear signatures. Also several copies of illustrations he did for a Canadian magazine called "Outing". I have original letters requesting certain of his paintings be displayed at The Art Club of Philadelphia 1896, The Art Institute of Chicago 1895,1899 and an invoice for the sale of a painting by the American Water Color Society in 1899. I also have copies of cataloges of the 65th and 66th annual exhibition for The Pennsyvania Academy of Fine Arts where his work was shown.I have some bits of information that show James' sisters may have displayed paintings in Canada. Also Selina Freret, James' mother came from a long line of French artists according to family lore. Harold Weston, James' brother, was a commercial artist in New York City.
