1795 "Declaration Signer & The Financier of the American Revolution" Robert Morris ALS to John Nicholson, Esq.
ROBERT MORRIS (1734-1806). Signer of all Three Foundational Documents including: the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the United States Constitution; Patriot of the American Revolutionary War, known as "The Financier of the American Revolution," later United States Senator from Pennsylvania.
March 18, 1795 Dated, Autograph Letter Signed, "Robert Morris", 1 page, place unknown, measuring about 9.5" x 7", with Integral Transmittal Cover to "Jn. Nicholson, Esq", Very Fine. There is a typical small tear where the red wax seal was opened and has some prior mounting traces on the top back edge. Here, Robert Morris writes a letter to Jn. Nicholson Esq., with legal instructions regarding a lawsuit in rich brown ink on period quality watermarked laid paper, which reads, in full: "You will see by the enclosed from Mr. Gibson that Mr. McCrea persist in his suit, will you give Mr. Gibson this ... directions -- as to the other note mentioned therein I will pay it. - Your Obed Servt. - (Signed) R Morris / 18 March 1795." Morris' signature is deep bold brown and is large measuring about 2.75" across. Morris' own handwriting can also be seen where he writes John Nicholson's name on the address leaf.
