Colonial America "Courting Candle" Holder Iron and Wood
c. 1740 Early Colonial America, Spiral "Courting Candle" Holder, Hand-wrought Iron and Wood Base Lighting Device, Complete, with Maker's Mark, Choice Very Fine.
This choice original spiral design "Courting Candle" Holder lighting device measures about 7.5" tall with a 3.75" diameter solid wooden base. The wooden base supports the holder which resembles a loosely coiled spring, with a support that allows the candle to be raised or lowered. Maker's Mark "I M-L" at top of coil. Similar to an example listed as number "18" on page 178 of "Collector's Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution" by Neumann and Kravic. Excellent original color, solid, functional and with a lovely natural patina. One of the nicer quality examples we have offered.
