1816-Dated, First Edition Early United States Navy Hardcover Book titled, "The Naval Temple", Published by Barber Badger, Boston, Complete, Very Fine.
The Naval Temple: Containing a Complete History of the Battles Fought by the Navy of the United States from its Establishment in 1794, to the Present Time (Including the Wars with France, and with Tripoli, the Late War with Great Britain, and the Algiers). Book measures about 5" x 8.5", 258 pages with an additional 10 Woodblock Engraved Plates illustrating early historic United States Naval Battle Scenes including one as the frontispiece and including USS frigate CONSTITUTION famous engagements. The elegant Engravings depict "now legendary battles". Slight rubbing and bumping from use; minor internal foxing, overall well printed with clean pleasing plate illustrations. Later half calf and marbled paper decorated Hardcovers with gold gilt "NAVAL TEMPLE" on its spine. Includes a section on "Naval Poetry". Overall, a wonderful contemporary United States Naval history book from the first days of the Congressional Act for fleet construction of 1794. Howes K-135.
