1832 Imprint "Address of the Managers of the American Colonization Society to the People of the United States"
1832-Dated Imprint titled, "Address of the Managers of the American Colonization Society to the People of the United States," Signed as belonging to "Wm. S. Stowe" Clyde, N.Y. with Custom Hardcover, Extremely Fine.
This original Booklet titled, "Address of the Managers of the American Colonization Society to the People of the United States." It was published in Washington in 1832, Printed by James C. Dunn, Georgetown D.C., 16 pages, complete, measuring about 5.5" x 9", untrimmed wove perod paper, bound into a custom hardcover for display and preservation. William S. Stowe was an attorney who settled in Clyde, New York in 1825, opened his law offices as one of its first buildings, and was one of its founders when incorporated in 1835. The subject of this rare Imprint is the Colonization of Africa by sending back Black American Slaves to the African continent. A rare Black History and Slavery related historically important Imprint.

Frederick Douglass started publishing his first Abolitionist newspaper, "The North Star," from the basement of the Memorial AME Zion Church in Rochester, New York. The The North Star's motto was "Right is of no Sex - Truth is of no Color - God is the Father of us all, and we are all brethren." The AME Church and North Star vigorously opposed the mostly White, American Colonization Society, and to its proposal to send American Blacks back to Africa.
