c. 1800 Federal Period, Historical Liverpool Creamware Pitcher, "George Washington" Memorial, with Famous Legend Transfer: "First in War / First in Peace / First in Fame / First in Virtue / Born 1732 - Died 1799", Choice Very Fine.
A historically important, rarely encountered Liverpool Creamware Pitcher ready for display. Three Transfers decorate this Historical Liverpool Creamware Pitcher, measures 9" tall, England, one side depicting a memorial to Washington listed as W. 45 on page 207 in Arman's, with famous Inscription from after his sermon reading: "First in War / First in Peace / First in Fame / First in Virtue / Born 1732 Died-1799." This being surrounded with the names of the original Thirteen States (Kentucky is substituted for Rhode Island, Kentucky officially became the fifteenth State in the Union on June 1, 1792.). The reverse side transfer depicting an "agrarian" farm scene titled, "The MOWER." (a design not listed in Arman). The third transfer is of the impressive official Great Seal of the United States, listed as S.22 on page 165 of Arman, which is located under the spout.
The United States Congress gave its approval on February 4, 1791. (This occurred two weeks before Congress approved Vermont's petition for statehood.) Kentucky officially became the fifteenth state in the Union on June 1, 1792. Isaac Shelby, a historic Revolutionary War military veteran from Virginia, was elected as its first Governor.
