c. 1800 Historical Liverpool Creamware Pitcher Titled "The Memory of WASHINGTON and the Proscribed PATRIOTS of AMERICA / Liberty, Virtue, Peace, Justice, and Equity to ALL Mankind." Samuel Adams and John Hancock Portraits
c. 1800 Federal Period Colorful Polychrome Historical Liverpool Creamware Pitcher / Jug, with Transfers "The Memory of WASHINGTON and the Proscribed PATRIOTS of AMERICA / Liberty, Virtue, Peace, Justice, and Equity to ALL Mankind." with Samuel Adams and John Hancock Portraits, plus Ships Transfers, Choice Extremely Fine.
This colorful polychrome Historical Liverpool Creamware Pitcher measures 9" tall x 5" diameter at the base. One side has a central image with a background of a memorial monument with a text legend honoring President George Washington, a Beehive, and a Cornucopia. Inset within the central oval surround of entwined vines are two Portraits of Samuel Adams and John Hancock, respectively labeled "S A" and "J H." Under the central medallion text reads: "Columbias Sons inspir'd by Freedoms Flame / Live in the Annals of immortal Fame." A wonderful design Not Listed in Arman. The opposite side has an image of a three-masted period Sailing Ship flying a large 15 Star American Flag, similar to an example listed in the Arman reference as "S-57" illustrated on page 175. Under the spout is a large colorful Heraldic Eagle Seal of the United States with a quote by Thomas Jefferson in surround reading: "Peace, Commerce, and Honest Friendship with all Nations - Entangling Alliances with None - Jefferson / Anno Domini 1802", which is listed as "J-8" illustrated on page 113, in "Anglo-American Ceramics Part I" by David & Linda Arman. This Pitcher has had some invisible professional restoration to the spout and base of the handle. Fully intact, clean and and colorful this historic Polychrome tribute to George Washington has excellent eye appeal and is meant for display.
