This photograph is believed to be of Macnolia Cox when she was the winner of the spelling bee competition that got her a spot in the 1936 Washington DC National Spelling Bee. Macnolia was the first Black National Spelling Bee finalist, who lost over a technicality when an unapproved word was used that caused her to lose the competition. This a a very rare photograph from the personal collection of photographer, Walter J. Pietschmann. Measures approximately 17" x 14"
