Giovanni Battista Ramusio of Venice's famed collection of early travel narratives was a genre-defining book. For an electrified audience eager for stories of distant and exotic lands, Battista presented the travels of Marco Polo, Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca, Ferdinand Magellan, Niccolò de' Conti and many others with accompanying maps and woodcut illustrations of strange flora and fauna. The folding maps in Volume III are as follows: Il Cuscho Citta Principale della Provincia del Peru; La Nuova Francia; Brasil; Parte de La Frica; Sumatra; Unversale Della Parte del Mondo Nuovamente Ritrovata; La Terra de Hochelaga Nella Nova Francia. Of the third edition of Volume I, Sabin states "The third edition of the first volume. It contains a new preface by "Tommaso Giunti alli lettori," giving an account of Ramusio, but in other respects appears to be an exact reprint of the edition of 1554, without additions."--Sabin v. 16, no. 67732.
