Album a fogli sciolti in cartoncino, legatura con i due piatti ricoperti di seta blu notte ricamata con motivi floreali in verde scuro, lacci di chiusura. 67 cartoncini ricoperti sul recto di carta rossa costellata di punti in oro, numerati in basso a sinistra, il primo non numerato, poi 1-66. A illustrazione del testo 108 fotografie in due diverse dimensioni: mm. 44 x 67 quelle più piccole, mm. 66 x 110 le più grandi. Testo francese e fotografie solo sul recto, minuta grafia in corsivo, agevolmente leggibile. Il testo, presenta alcune cancellature e correzioni. Buono stato di conservazione.
Importante e interessante testimonianza sulla Cina di inizio Novecento, opera manoscritta inedita con 108 fotografie. Resoconto di un viaggio nella Cina centrale, corredato da un’ampia documentazione fotografica. L'autore, di cui si conosce solo il nome ‘Paul’, lascia Hankéou (l'attuale Wuhan, nella provincia di Hubei) alla fine dell'aprile 1922, a bordo di una nave a vapore che risale lo Yang-Tse-Kiang. Passa attraverso il pittoresco canyon della gola dello Yangtze, partendo da Itchang (Yichang) e arriva all'inizio di maggio a Tchongking (Chongqing). Da Chongqing procede via terra fino a Tchengtou (Chengdu, la capitale del Sichuan), e in seguito raggiunge Koan Hsien (Tsing-chin), via Tseulioutsing. Quindi ascende il monte Ngomei Shan (o Monte Emei, a sud-ovest di Chengdu), una montagna alta 3040 metri dove ci sono molti monasteri in mezzo a una fitta vegetazione. Il viaggio si conclude a Kinting (Kiating), tra Chengdu e il Monte Emei, il 10 giugno 1922. Il suggestivo racconto è illustrato con 108 fotografie montate nel testo, in numero variabile, più spesso una o due per pagina, a volte tre o quattro. Una quindicina di queste fotografie sono ripetute e sono presenti nelle due versioni, grande e piccola. Nel complesso sono rappresentati circa 90 soggetti.Le fotografie non sono firmate, ma sono scattate dall’autore durante il viaggio: documentano le gole dello Yang-Tse, le barche sul fiume, paesaggi, ponti, templi, un convoglio funebre, una colonna di soldati, Europei in portantina, una risaia, una miniera di salgemma, e molto altro.L’opera è ripartita in 6 capitoli: La fin du Han, pp. 1- 3; Le Fleuve, pp. 4-6; Les Gorges, pp. 7-25; De Tchongking à Tchengtou et Koan Hsien par Tseulioutsing, pp. 26-48; Koan Hsien, pp. 49-55; Le Ngomei Shan (pp. 56-66. Important and interesting testimony on early twentieth century China, unpublished manuscript work with 108 photographs. Report of a trip to central China, accompanied by extensive photographic documentation. The author, of whom only the name 'Paul' is known, leaves Hankéou (present-day Wuhan, Hubei province) at the end of April 1922, aboard a steamship going up the Yang-Tse-Kiang. He passes through the picturesque canyon of the Yangtze Gorge, starting from Itchang (Yichang) and arriving in early May in Tchongking (Chongqing). From Chongqing he proceeds by land to Tchengtou (Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan), and then reaches Koan Hsien (Tsing-chin), via Tseulioutsing. Then he ascends Mount Ngomei Shan (or Mount Emei, southwest of Chengdu), a 3,040-meter high mountain where there are many monasteries amidst dense vegetation. The journey ends in Kinting (Kiating), between Chengdu and Mount Emei, on 10 June 1922. The evocative story is illustrated with 108 photographs mounted in the text, in variable numbers, most often one or two per page, sometimes three or four. Fifteen of these photographs are repeated and are present in two versions, large and small.
