Description
George Valentine Dureau (New Orleans, 1930-2014), "Portrait of a Seated Male Nude," 20th c., charcoal pastel on paper, unsigned, presented in a gilt frame, H.- 24 3/4 in., W.- 17 in., Framed H.- 31 7/8 in., W.- 23 7/8 in.
Condition
There are no condition issues with this study. This was originally in the collection of Martin Shambra, owner of Marti’s Restaurant in the French Quarter of New Orleans. He had hundreds of works on paper in his collection, which he personally was gifted or bought from George Dureau. The auction house has been selling them for the past few years. Additionally, the style of the piece, regardless of it being a study after a painting, shows the hand of George Dureau. This is a very handsome example that unfortunately was not signed.
