Antique Indian Bronze Figure, Half Shiva Half Parvati Ardhanari. Ardhanari or Ardhanareeswar is the synthesis of Shiva and Parvati depicting the deity in traditional half man and half woman form split down the middle. Shiva holds an ax with his right hand raised in the abhaya mudra of divine protection or reassurance; Parvati with leggings and one exposed breast. On integral lotus plinth. Size: 18'' x 7.5'' x 5'' (46 x 19 x 13 cm). Weight: 11.5 lbs. Provenance: Sylvia and Philip Chaplain Collection, New Hampshire.
