Large Indian Sandstone Harihara Deity Figure Ca. 19th century or earlier.Size:33-3/4”H.Large carved red-brown sandstone figure depicting the Hindu deity Harihara, being half Shiva and half Vishnu. Standing in samabhanga, wearing a dhoti and bejeweled. Serene facial expression, having almond shape eyes below arched eyebrows. Elongated ear lobes wearing large ear ornaments. Missing arms, feet and some typical losses to the decorative elements. Old wood block base. A nice example.Provenance:Estate collection of Nourollah Elghanayan , NYC., acquired 1960s - 1970s.
