Description
A George III ebonised and brass-mounted bracket clock, A George III ebonised and brass-mounted bracket clock, late 18th century, by William Bull of Stratford, Essex, the domed case with a carry handle, enclosing a four-pillar eight-day movement striking on a bell, with pull repeat, the backplate with foliate engraving, the front door concealing strike/silent, the whole raised on brass ogee bracket feet, the bracket with a moulded edge and stepped base, complete with two keys, clock 37.5cm high 59cm high overall A similar example can be seen in Cescinsky & Webster, 'English Domestic Clocks', p.306, a copy of which is included, in addition to a previous insurance valuation. Condition Report: Has been seen by a clock maker in 2002 but has not been used since. Some very small old spits to the domed top of the case. Some wear to the ebonised finish. There is a chip to the corner of the bracket, with other knocks and marks.
