A set of eighteen Luohan in the style of Zeng Longsheng
1950s-1960s
With a two-character mark to the underside of each. (18).
H: 17 1/8, W: 9 1/4, D: 7 1/8 in.(lrgst) (H: 32.7, W: 22.86, D: 18.1 cm. (largest))
Dimensions: H: 17 1/8, W: 9 1/4, D: 7 1/8 in. (largest); H: 32.7, W: 22.86, D: 18.1 cm. (largest); : H: 12 7/8, W: 9, D: 7 7/8 in. (smallest); H: 32.70, W: 22.86, D: 20 cm. (smallest).
Provenance: Mrs. Donarier, Florida. Her mother acquired them from a temple in Hong Kong in the 1970s.
Each intricately sculpted arhat figure in this set possesses an element of realism. The figures receive individual treatment, allowing them to be distinguishable from each other. Their skin is unglazed ceramic painted over with famille rose, while other parts are painted over with colored glaze. This set of Luohan figures has a high collection value and is remarkable in the fact that all eighteen figures have remained intact as a group.

1. Loss of item and area of damage to right hand. Firing crack to interior of rock above shoes. Minor chipping to underside.
2. Areas of scattered chipping and glaze chipping to base.

5. Minor area of abrasions to top of head, chip and firing crack to underside.
6. Area of breakage and repair to the scroll, minor chipping throughout.
7. Breakage and loss to end of fly whisk, chipping and glaze pops throughout.
8. Breakage and loss to tiger’s tongue; chipping to tiger’s paw; chipping to underside and throughout; minor glaze pops throughout.
9. Minor abrasions throughout; minor chipping to underside.
10. Firing crack to figure’s right side; minor glaze chips to verso; minor chipping to underside.
11. Breakage and loss to both of the dragon’s horns; glaze chips, glaze loss, and glaze pops throughout.
12. Minor glaze pops and glaze loss throughout; minor chipping to underside.
13. Glaze wear and loss throughout, minor areas of chipping throughout; hairline to underside.
14. Minor abrasions throughout; scattered firing cracks and chipping. Two large areas of breakage and loss to underside, both with repairs.
15. Scattered areas of glaze loss and wear; minor firing cracks throughout; chipping to underside.
