Description
Measurements: Height: 3" Diameter/Depth: 16.5"
The Finest, Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Blue & White charger with barbed rim porcelain plate. The porcelain potted in huge plate shape, shallow vessel form, thick and large, with broad wide central interior, rounded scalloped and barbed rim, gently tapering to open wide, raised with round shallow draft, slight concave base. A blue and white charger with a scalloped and barbed rim with a central motif of a lotus blossom. The walls are divided into twelve panels arising from the bottom. Each panel features a different stage in a lotus development and a stylized tendril band encircles the rim. The exterior walls duplicate the interior design. Lotus is one of the most significant flowers in the Chinese culture. It symbolizes the holy seat of Buddha. Because the flower rises from the mud and blooms in exquisite beauty it symbolizes perfection and purity of both the heart and mind. It also represents long life and honor. The lotus flower is depicted in Chinese art, poetry and architecture. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
