Description
Ferdinand Barbedienne (French, 1810-1892). Bronze sculpture depicting Aeneas carrying his father, Anchises, on his back and closely followed by his son, Ascanius. Ascanius turns back to glimpse the burning city of Troy while Anchises holds steadfastly to the vessel with his ancestors' ashes. A draped lion skin represents the family's ties to Aphrodite. Stamped "F. Barbedienne Fondeur" along the base of the pillar. Further stamped "Reduction Mecanique A. Collas Brevete" along the base.
