This seldom seen vintage 1960's Leica Arnex two-register chronograph has an off white "FRANCE" signed dial that shows moderate wear. The lume plots on the dial, which remain intact and no longer glow after being exposed to bright light, have aged to a buttermilk hue. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "ALL STAINLESS STEEL - STEEL - ANTIMAGNETIC" with "DUSTPROOF" stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped "ARNEX TIME Co" and "FRANCE." The crystal shows light scratching.
The 17 jewels unadjusted France "ANGUENOT FRERES" stamped Venus 188 manual wind movement is clean, runs a few minutes fast by the end of its power reserve period and all chronograph functions work. The top pusher starts and stops the the sweep seconds hand and the bottom pusher resets the sweeps seconds hand and minute register hand (right subdial) back to precisely zero. Please note that after initiating the chronograph (pressing the top pusher) the sweeps seconds hand will either start to move immediately or there will be a slight (few to several second) delay before it begins to move. Both pushers have a pleasant catch and release feel. After recently winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown crown 52 full revolutions the movement had a power reserve of approximately 30 hours. The crown winds smoothly.
Watch size: 1,3 inch (37 mm) excl the crown, 1,6 inch (39,5 mm) with the crown, 0,7 inch (18,5 mm) betw the lugs. Case thickness approx: 0,3 inch (8 mm). Crystal thickness size: approx 0,5 inch (11,5 mm).
Although the movement runs and all chronograph functions work, given that the sweep seconds hand has a tendency for delayed movement after pressing the top pusher, the relatively weak power reserve, that it runs a bit fast and considering the movement's unknown service history, a complete overhaul is recommended.
