Group of Chief Justice Signatures From William H. Taft, Charles E. Hughes, & Harlan Stone
Autographs in original postage provided by the collector, 3 pp, all measuring 5.5" x 3.5". Expected letter folds with light, uneven toning throughout. Wonderfully preserved in their accompanying envelopes and boldly signed by all. The lot includes:
1.) William H. Taft signature as Chief Justice, postmarked March 4, 1929, Washington, D.C. Penned in his last year as Chief Justice, a position he served between 1921-1930.
2.) Charles Evan Hughes Sr. signature, dated March 13, 1929, Hudson Terminal Station, NY. Signed and sent just months before his appointment of Chief Justice, Hughes was nominated in early 1930 and succeeded Taft as his health declined.
3.) Harlan Stone signature, postmarked March 21, 1930, Washington, D.C. Signed during his time as associate justice, Stone was later nominated for the position of Chief Justice following Hughes' retirement.
