Description

Fantastic Amelia Earhart & G.P. Putnam Signatures

Amelia Earhart signature on a white sheet, 6.5" x 10." Boldly signed as "Amelia M. Earhart."  With expected folds from mailing.

G.P. Putnam signature on a white sheet, 6.5" x 10." Boldly signed as "George Palmer Putnam." With expected folds from mailing.

Both signatures are accompanied by the original mailing envelopes which were sent from Earhart to Mrs. Harriet Kinney, an experienced autograph collector from Mystic, CT. The Earhart envelope is dated February 26, 1929 and the Putnam envelope is dated August 28, 1929.

Amelia Earhart (1897-1938) was one of the world's most celebrated aviators and was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean (1932). In addition to her piloting feats, Earhart was known for encouraging women to reject constrictive social norms and to pursue various opportunities, especially in the field of aviation. Her aviation career was cut short though when she tragically disappeared in 1937 while attempting an unprecedented aerial circumnavigation of the globe.

George Palmer Putnam (1887 – 1950) was an American publisher, writer and explorer. Known for his marriage to (and being the widower of) Amelia Earhart, he had also achieved fame as one of the most successful promoters in the United States during the 1930s.
