Amelia Earhart Original Photograph, Taken Before Final Flight
Original photo, 5" x 4", circa 1937, featuring Amelia Earhart seated atop her Lockheed Electra ahead of her "2nd world trip" as noted by the dealer's notes in pen on the photograph, else in fine condition. Encapsulated by PSA to a size of 6.5" x 10" and designated a type II photograph.
Amelia Earhart's second world trip began on March 17, 1937. She set out to circumnavigate the globe in her Lockheed Model 10-E Electra airplane. She was accompanied by navigator Fred Noonan and a small crew. Her trip took her from Oakland, California, to Hawaii, then onto New Guinea and Australia.
The trip continued over the Indian Ocean, then to Africa, across the Mediterranean, and then to Europe. Earhart's flight ended in Lae, New Guinea, on July 2, 1937, when she, Noonan, and their plane disappeared.
Despite a large search effort, the plane and its occupants were never found. Earhart's disappearance remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the 20th century. Despite the tragedy, Earhart will always be remembered for her daring bravery and courage as she pushed the boundaries of what was possible in human flight.
