Description
ENORMOUS Dealer's Lot From CT Autograph Collector, 250+ Signers, 600+ Pieces, ca. 1891-1993, Literature, Music, Entertainment & More!

A massive dealers' lot comprised of mostly twentieth-century autographs collected by an autograph seeker from Mystic, Connecticut named Harriette Little Kinney (1883-1976). We have grouped the archive of 600+ pieces and 250+ signers into the following categories: Featured; Literature; Music; Entertainment; Politics; Military; Business; Religion; Education; Science; Art; Sports; and Miscellaneous. Material in the archive ranges from 1891 until the George H.W. Bush administration, though most of the material dates from the 1920s and the 1930s. Autographed material includes signature clips; signed cards, postcards, and photos; autograph letters signed, and typed letters signed. Please refer to catalog photos for additional information related to the condition, which shows expected age and wear but is overall very good. Because of its size and scope, the lot should ideally be viewed in person.

Harriette Little Kinney amassed the bulk of her collection by soliciting autographs; thus, many of the autographs are still accompanied by original correspondence and transmittal envelopes. Extremely organized, Kinney inscribed both the celebrity's name and memory aids on these envelopes, which greatly helps the modern collector. Kinney also saved correspondence from notables' secretaries if they declined her requests. The archive is currently divided into categories appealing to the modern collector. It is contained in a box measuring approximately 12.25" x 14.475" x 6.5."

The archive provides us with a unique view of the 1920s and 1930s American society, culture, and intellectual movements. Some of the signers are obscure today but enjoyed their fifteen minutes of fame during the era. These individuals include the likes of: Dr. Allan Roy Dafoe, who successfully delivered the Dionne quintuplets; Lewis E. Lawes, the Sing Sing prison warden who supervised electric chair executions; Edna Peters, voted the "typical American girl" by Hearst readers in 1929; Bernarr MacFadden, who championed nudism; and "Pussyfoot" Johnson, who enforced Prohibition law.
