Four Indentures & Treaties from 17th C. England and France, 1620-1659
A group of four 17th-century English and French marriage and land indentures from the reigns of Charles I of England, Oliver Cromwell, and Louis XIII of France. All are written upon vellum and date from 1620 to 1659. The group all have flattened folds and varying degrees of toning, soiling, and foxing. Bold and clear text and signatures by related parties. Please refer to the photographs for further condition information. Overall, very good.
Includes the following:
1. 1p, measuring 23.75" x 10.25", Leighton, Montgomery County, England, dated September 6, 1645. A lease of Petre Mill from Edward Corbett to Jasper Ellis, during the reign of King Charles I. With signatures and marks of the related parties.
2. 1p, measuring 11.25" x 12.5", Essex County, England, dated May 5, 1659. A Manorial document for the Right Honorable Dudley, Lord North, during the Cromwellian Period.
3. 8pp, measuring 9.5" x 13.75", Dole, France, dated June 11, 1620. Written in French. A marriage treaty between Sir Philippe-Antoine de Billy, Master Advisor to the Chamber of Accounts, to Jeanne Javorel of Poligny, during the reign of Louis XIII. Bound with green ribbon.
4. 1p, measuring 6" x 5", Bledington, Glastonbury, England, dated June 2, 1655. The document grants full power and authority to possession of goods belonging to the late John Andrews unto William Andrews, due to the lack of a Will. During the Cromwellian Period.
