1528 Edition of "Macrobius", Beautifully Bound

"Macrobius Ambrosius Aurelius Theodosius: In Somnium Scipionis ex Ciceronis VI Libro de Rep. Eruditissima Explanatio." Venice: in Aedibus Aldi & Andreae Soceri, 1528. Small Twelvemo, [26], 2 blank, 322pp. Wood cut illustrations throughout. Some handwritten annotations within. With a Hopetoun bookplate. Marbled end boards, bound in brown leather. With a gilt border on the covers and gilt titling and décor at the spine. The front cover has become loosened. Possible later binding. Some scratching and wear to the covers, with bumped corners. Sound binding otherwise.

The works of Macrobius, a fifth-century A.D. Roman philosopher, were of great popularity throughout the Middle Ages. His Neoplatonic commentary on Cicero includes, among many references to the pseudo-sciences, a geographic concept that is different from that of Ptolemy.
