Description
1777 EXQUISITE Poems & Fables of Antoine Houdar La Motte & Bernard Fontenelle French Lit
A beautifully bound tome of the works of La Motte and Fontenelle.
The Fables of La Motte were written at an unfortunate time in the history of French literature. At the time when Antoine Houdar de la Motte was writing these works, another certain fabulist was captivating the hearts of readers. Motte could not compete with the popularity of Fontaine and thus his fables suffered. However, his fables and stories are still read into the 21st-century, just not to the extent that Fontaine or Aesop are consumed, even though Motte sought to compete with the popularity of the two fable cornerstones.
Bernard de Fontenelle was a French fabulist known for his views of the occult, astrology, universe, and zodiac. His works, however, were considered so unimportant that they drew no negative attention from either the Catholic or Protestant Churches.
