Description
1st Ed. "Where the Wild Things Are" Signed with a Sketch by M. Sendak
An inscribed and signed first edition of "Where The Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. [New York]: Harper & Row Publishers, 1963. Small quarto, unpaginated. Library of Congress catalog card No. 63-21253. The original dustjacket, bearing the codes 40-80 and 1163 to the front flap, and the absence of any mention of the Caldecott Award on the rear flap. Wear and loss to the upper spine and corner. Soiling and toning to the spine and edges. Some tears and paper loss to the dustjacket, along with toning and soiling. Sound binding with a clean interior, bold signature and sketch.
Inscribed and Signed by Sendak on the half-title page "Dear Elizabeth - The Blue endpapers reveal this to be, probably, the first library edition. You got a good one! The hideous color printing guarantees it is a first! Maurice Sendak Oct. '91", accompanied by a small sketch of a Wild Thing.
