Description
American Civil War period whisky flask with pewter bottom cover/cup engraved "Surg. H. B. Powell, 38th Ohio Inf.". Flask measures 5.5" in height and presents leather cover to upper portion of flask and pewter cover to lower portion of flask. Flask bottom of flask marked "OLRY & Co, Philad". Flask belonged to Hazel B. Powell who enlisted and was mustered into Company B, 38th Ohio Infantry as a private on August 19, 1861. On July 19, 1863 he was transferred to the Field & Staff of the 38th Ohio Infantry and commissioned an Assistant Surgeon. On January 1, 1865 he was appointed Surgeon of the regiment and was mustered out with them at Louisville, Kentucky on July 12, 1865. Flask exhibits slight wear and is accompanied by large 3-ring binder containing research regarding Powell, his history and the history of the regiment.
