American Civil War period US plates including 1.) Regulation m1839 Cavalry cartridge box plate with two iron loops on reverse. This exact plate is pictured in American Military Belt Plates by O'Donnell & Campbell as plate #524. Plate measures 41mm x 72mm and presents stamp in solder on reverse "MADE BY J. I. PITTMAN. Surface of front of plate exhibits even patina with several small spots of verdigris. 2.) Regulation m1839 Cavalry enlisted man's belt plate with two "puppy paw" studs and hook on reverse with leather covered solder . This exact plate is pictured in American Military Belt Plates by O'Donnell & Campbell as plate #485. Plate measures 55mm x 88mm and presents stamp in leather covering solder on reverse "BOYD & SONS / BOSTON. Surface of front of plate exhibits even patina with small digs. Both plates were originally owned by George Kergerreis. Provenance: Gary Wolfer collection.
