Colonial Currency Large Leather Money Wallet / Billfold
c. 1770 Early Colonial to Revolutionary War Era, Hand-stitched Brown Leather Large Size Colonial Currency Paper Money Billfold or Pocketbook, Choice Very Fine.
This Hand-stitched Leather Paper Money Wallet measures about 4.75" x 8.25" (when closed), and 8.25" x 9.5" (when fully open), no date or place. Made entirely of brown calfskin with overall even expected wear from use. Two large interior pockets with leather dividers. The two external leather loops with its full strap are intact, meant for securing the contents when closed. The size of this wallet suggests use for such items as Continental Congress treasury bills, larger size Southern notes such as issued in Georgia or South Carolina, or possibly of earlier vintage and designed to hold earlier era Colonial Merchant "Land Bank" or "Tall Notes" of all types circa 1740s or later. It is in excellent condition for its age, the exterior leather retains significant original gloss.
