Scarce Early Circa 1840 Ship's Officer's Pewter Inkwell
c. 1840, Scarce Pewter Ship's Officer's Special Design Inkwell, Choice Very Fine.
This scarce Ship's Officer's Pewter Inkwell measures about 3" tall with a very wide 8" diameter flat base. Its unique design, features a "rocking" central frame for the glass ink jar (lacking) and has a rotating protective solid pewter dome cover. The large base would help hold the inkwell in place while the ship rocked back and forth and the central ink would remain more stable in rough seas.
