Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
Exceptional c. 1840 Supple Leather Covered Cartridge Box
c. 1840 Military Leather Covered Cartridge Box with 24 rounds Wooden Insert, Choice Very Fine.
This Cartridge Box measures about 4" tall x 10" wide. The large complete leather cover flap appears to be a period replacement and it remains supple to the touch. Leather belt loops at each end. Its Wooden insert holds 24 rounds. Overall, there is some wear to the back and bottom with some separation at the seams. Whole and complete with all tack nails in place, having nice eye appeal for display.
