Description
Circa 1800 Simon Willard mahogany inlaid tall clock with painted 16 x 12 inch metal dial with upper ship/house/man-in-moon rotating phases, seconds hand and calendar aperture. Signed SIMON WILLARD and WARRANTED FOR MR. JAMES MACKIE (registered as a Boston mariner on Ship St. in 1800). Well-proportioned 96 in tall case with old finish and 3 brass finials (2 replaced) for total height of 100.5 inches, width = 18.5 in, depth = 10.5 in. Bonnet has side windows and open fretwork. Case is pinstripe-inlaid with quarter-paterae on base section and 1/4 stop-fluted columns with brass caps. Bracket feet have been added at one time but otherwise all original (old surface) with weights, pendulum, and key. Good working condition, from a Newport doctor's collection (with paperwork including bill of sale from J. Snellenburg NY 2003 and a color ad from Antiques Magazine).
