American Cavalry Saber and Scabbard
Circa 1770s
The brass hilt with slotted counter-guard and two branches connected to the knuckle bow and roughly chased lion's head pommel, spiral carved and red-stained walnut grip; the curved blade with false edge at the tip with three narrow fullers; the black leather scabbard has an iron throat with pointed lobe for the button (missing).

Condition
Brass toned to a dark yellow, the inboard side of the hilt with a loss to the outside of the slot, minor scratches and verdigris; blade toned to a deep brown with light underlying pitting; scabbard has an alligatored surface, a repair just below the throat and is missing the tip.
