Rare wall map format of this important map, generally seen as issued in Frémont's Geographical Memoir Upon Upper California. Wheat calls it an "important and beautifully drawn map" which became a model for many later gold region maps. Drawn by Preuss from Frémont's surveys, at the time of its publication it was the most accurate map of the region covered. We have not seen this map in this format before. Moderate toning to paper, some staining, soiling and light wear, a few chips around edges and some small patches of loss in margins, ¾x1" rectangle of paper missing from ocean off Baja, a few other small surface chips, a few creases; still very good.
