Description
Burmese Kalaga, mid to late 20th century, executed in embroidery, couching, and cotton trapunto on black velvet, the whole embellished with plain and metallic threads, metal sequins, beads, and glass stones, the pictorial textile illustrating scenes from the Jataka, framed in repeating geometric borders, finished with a grey silk band with hanging tabs. Provenance: From the Private Collection of Bruce M. Baum and E. E. Cole, Atlanta, Georgia. Approx. h. 43" (inclusive of hanging tabs), w. 88".
