Description
Two large Japanese wooden Jizai Kagi or hearth kettle hooks, late 19th or early 20th century, carved in the form of carp, each was part of a pulley system used to raise and lower hot water kettles or pots over a fire or brazier, having no apparent marks. Provenance: From a Private Collection, Atlanta, GA; acquired in Japan between 1989-1993. Larger approx. h. 18", l. 36", d. 6"; smaller h. 9.5", l. 18", d. 3".
Condition
Hardware has rust, may be refinished, wear to finish around the edges; larger fish with an approx. l. 3" scratch to the head.
