Description
MONTEGRAPPA FOUNTAIN PEN "AMERICAN'S CUP", 2000.
Embossed silver barrel and blue resin.
Limited edition. Exemplary 0239/1851.
Two-tone gold nib. M point.
Screw cap. Piston loading.
No box.
Dimensions: 13.5 cm length, 14.72 mm diameter.
In 2003 Montegrappa dedicated a limited edition to the famous America's Cup. The cup is a trophy, originally called "The RYS £100 Cup". The world famous sailing race was first held in 1851 and the trophy was awarded by the British Royal Yacht Squadron for a race around the Isle of Wright in the United Kingdom. The 1851 race was won by a schooner named America, owned by a syndicate of the New York Yacht Club. Since then, the trophy was permanently donated to NYYC and renamed "America's Cup" under the agreement that it would be available for perpetual international competition.
The shape and design of the trophy is reproduced in the silver decoration of the pen. The blue resin under the silver casing recalls the colour of the sea. The outline of the cup is also engraved on the nib. The limited edition consists of 1851 pieces, celebrating the year of the first sailing competition.
