A large Russian silver-gilt lid tankard with coin of Peter II, Moscow, Grigory Ivanov Serebryanikov (Master 1745 - 1768), circa 1750Gilt silver. Circular foot. The exterior of the bellied vessel embossed with shells, rocailles, and foliage. An eagle on stippled ground on the obverse. The edge of the domed lid decorated en suite. The centre inlaid with a Rouble coin depicting Peter II (Emperor of Russia 1727 - 1730) from 1728. Button in the form of a double Janus face. Janus is the symbol of duality and ambiguity who stands for the good and the bad. Banded handle with shield-shaped finial. The bottom and lid stamped with city mark "17??", unknown "AG" assayer's mark and "GS" master's mark, both in Cyrillic. Later gold-plating. The interior with restored crack and small loss. Height 20.5 cm, weight 708.1 g.Condition: II
