Description
A large Russian silver-gilt lidded goblet with a portrait of the Tsar and Tsarina, Moscow, Nikifor Timofeev, 1754Gilt silver. Circular spreading foot. The exterior of the conical body embossed with two oval portrait cartouches. The persons depicted are most likely Peter the Great (Peter I, 1682 - 1721 Tsar and Grand Duke of Russia and from 1721 - 1725 the first Tsar of the Russian Empire) and Catherine I (Tsarina 1725 - 1727). Embossed fruit garlands and foliage on either side. Domed lid embossed with leaves. Bottom and lid stamped with city mark, Afanasii Rybakov's assayer mark "1734 AR", and Cyrillic "HT" master's mark.
