According to the hand written account by Col. Eric Fisher Wood, the WWI Commander of the 107th, “…in Meuse Argone on…4 Oct. 107 Fed HQ overrun by Germans…and Bat. flags captured by the Huns…on 5 Oct 82nd Div counter attacked and recaptured the two lost standards and returned them to Rgt. HQ in damaged and torn state…” (2) Battalion standard. Relief embroidered multi-shaded US Army eagle, unit coat-of-arms, and legend with “107th FIELD ARTILLERY” on a red silk field. Yellow-gold fring on top and bottom borders – missing from side which is also damaged. Present size is 36″ x 36″. Flag shows damage and the effects of being captured and re-captured as stated above. (5) The above standards were found in a 1920′s cardboard box in the estate of a member of the Wood family. The underside of the box cover has a handwritten account concerning the history of these standards at Meuse Argonne in 1918 and comments about the lost battalion. Written by and signed “E.F. Wood”, the Battalion Commander. An important offering of American WWI history. II-
