A pair of mid-19th century Portuguese parcel gilt silver toothpick holders, Porto circa 1860 by APC script possibly for Antonio Pereira de Castro
Peter V period. Formed as a figure of Aphrodite and Poseidon, each with arms raised, each standing against a gilt scallop shell with shaped edge for holding toothpicks. Each upon an octagonal section column with holes for toothpicks at the base. All upon a cast square form base with acanthus leaf edge raised upon four lion paw feet. Each marked to the lower base with assay mark for Caetano Rodrigues de Araújo (used 1853-61, V. 102), assay scrape, and makers mark (V.693).
